Maynilad spearheads Manila Bay cleanup drive

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. collected 367 kilograms of waste during a recent coastal cleanup at SM By the Bay in Pasay City.
The initiative, organized as part of the company’s observance of World Ocean Day 2026, drew 67 employee-volunteers who cleared litter and debris from the shoreline to prevent pollution from entering Manila Bay and adjacent waterways.
Company officials said the cleanup aligns with Maynilad’s broader environmental sustainability programs, which emphasize water resource protection, responsible waste management and employee volunteerism.
“As a water and wastewater services provider, Maynilad recognizes that the protection of waterways requires collective action,” Roel S. Espiritu, Maynilad chief sustainability officer, said.
“Through activities like this, we are able to engage our employees in environmental stewardship while helping protect coastal and marine environments,” he added.
World Ocean Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the conservation of marine resources and to curb global ocean pollution.
In addition to volunteer drives, Maynilad has continued investments in wastewater treatment infrastructure and water resource management across its concession area to protect local aquatic ecosystems. dt
Maynilad, an agent of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, is the largest water concessionaire by population in a single concession area in the Philippines.
