Jericho Rosales and Maris Racal emerged as the night’s biggest acting winners as the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) celebrated the finest achievements in local filmmaking during the 9th Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards, better known as The Eddys.
Rosales claimed the Best Actor trophy for his commanding portrayal of former Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon in the historical drama Quezon. The honor capped an emotional evening for the veteran actor, who used his acceptance speech to reflect on the personal struggles he continues to face while expressing gratitude to the people who have stood by him throughout his journey.
Racal, meanwhile, earned the Best Actress award for her acclaimed performance in Sunshine. Accepting the recognition, the actress acknowledged the challenge of taking on a film centered on the sensitive issue of abortion, saying she believed in the story because of its message and the creative team that brought it to life.
Their victories highlighted a ceremony that celebrated both established industry icons and a new generation of performers making their mark on Philippine cinema.
The night’s biggest film honor went to Quezon, which was named Best Picture after also winning Best Director for filmmaker Jerrold Tarog. The historical epic further cemented its status as one of the country’s most celebrated productions of the year.
