A Grade 10 student was killed while another boy was injured after they were struck by lightning during an outing in Barangay Daanlungsod, Tuburan, Cebu, on 3 July 2026.

According to the Tuburan Municipal Police Station (MPS), the 16-year-old victim was with a 14-year-old friend when lightning struck on Thursday afternoon.

Police identified the deceased as a student of Tuburan National High School. Both victims are residents of Purok Santan, Barangay Daanlungsod.

The Tuburan MPS reported that the two boys were having a picnic with friends along the shoreline when lightning suddenly struck, hitting both of them.

The older boy was immediately rushed to Tuburan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the 14-year-old boy remains under close medical observation at the hospital.

Authorities are continuing to gather details surrounding the incident.
