Bangsamoro group urges SC to resolve BARMM poll petitions before 14 September

THE Supreme Court
A Bangsamoro advocacy group has urged the Supreme Court to resolve pending petitions related to the first regular elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) before the scheduled 14 September 2026 polls, warning that further delays could undermine the peace process.
AMANA-BARMM convenors Alim Saad Amate and Maulana Mamutuk said the high court should act with urgency amid growing political tensions nationwide, including ongoing impeachment proceedings and public demonstrations.
The group said recent rallies in Cotabato City, Lanao del Sur, and along EDSA in Metro Manila reflected a growing public demand for government institutions to listen to the people.
"We traveled far to be heard because the Bangsamoro people cannot be treated as an afterthought. The Supreme Court is now the last constitutional forum that can prevent confusion before election day," Mamutuk said.
Amate said the BARMM elections go beyond politics, describing them as a "constitutional peace issue" rooted in decades of armed struggle, peace negotiations, and the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).
"The BARMM is not only an election issue. It is a constitutional peace issue. It came from struggle, sacrifice, peace talks, and the CAB. These gains must be protected," he said.
The group urged the Supreme Court to carefully review all pending petitions and appeals, citing concerns over political stability, representation, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front's leadership role during the transition period under the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
AMANA-BARMM also called on the Court to help ensure that the historic September 2026 BARMM elections are conducted lawfully, peacefully, credibly, and free from confusion
