The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday, 30 August, said it is ready to hold the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said during a radio interview, “All of the materials that will be used for the elections scheduled for 14 September have been deployed.”
“These have been deployed to the various provincial hubs of the Comelec,” said Garcia.
“These will be brought to the various municipalities of the different provinces of the BARMM before the end of the first week of September,” he added.
Just last week, Garcia and Comelec commissioners were in Cotabato City for a command conference with stakeholders to ensure that preparations are in place.
So far, Garcia said, “There has been only one election-related incident.”
“This is the first time we have experienced peaceful preparations for elections in the history of the BARMM,” said the chairman.
