Zion Corrales-Nelson will compete in four more meets in North America before seeing action in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October.
Corrales-Nelson said she will compete in two meets in the United States and two more in Canada.
“Training is going really well right now. We’re kind of just building because the season is so long and the Asian Games are in September,” Corrales-Nelson said in a radio interview.
“I have two meets in the next three weeks in Los Angeles and then two meets on the Canadian circuit. They’re kind of just tune-up meets to get back into competition.”
The 27-year-old sprinter, who holds the Philippine national record in the women’s 100-meter event with a time of 11.19 seconds, said she hopes to complete part of her training in the Philippines in August while also visiting her relatives in Tarlac before shifting her focus to the Asian Games.
The Philippines hopes to improve on its performance in the previous Asian Games, where only Ernest John Obiena won the gold medal in the men’s pole vault in 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
“Hopefully, when we go to the Philippines in the middle of August, we can try to compete in some meets in Asia just to tune up before the Asian Games,” Corrales-Nelson said.
“I think this is the best training I’ve had in my entire life. Everything’s really clicking. I’m setting a lot of personal bests in practice, my body’s feeling good, and we’re definitely headed in the right direction. Right now it’s just about staying healthy, continuing to train, and getting ready for September.”
