The Bureau of Customs (BoC) recently met with government agencies and industry stakeholders to align strategies for improving efficiency at the Manila International Container Port and the Port of Manila.

Customs commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, who presided over the coordination meeting, said the goal is to sustain port operations through early coordination, shared planning, and data-driven solutions.

He stressed that continuous dialogue is necessary to anticipate operational pressures and ensure that customs processes remain responsive.

“Efficient port operations are a shared responsibility that require close collaboration, transparency, and prompt action,” Nepomuceno said.

During the session, district collectors presented updates on yard utilization levels at both major Manila ports.

The data was intended to provide stakeholders with a clear operational picture and reinforce the need for proactive monitoring.

Discussions focused on strengthening forecasting mechanisms, preparing for various operational scenarios, and streamlining the implementation of existing customs procedures

Nepomuceno proposed holding these coordination meetings regularly to identify emerging issues and implement timely interventions.

Meantime, industry leaders expressed support for the bureau’s initiatives and noted their readiness to work alongside government agencies.

The BoC and its partners aim to use the strengthened collaboration to enhance yard management, accelerate cargo release procedures, and ensure the consistent application of policies regarding how long containers stay at the docks.
