A concerned resident rescued a serpent eagle after a heavy downpour on 23 February 2026.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Soccsksargen, the eagle fell from a Santol tree during the intense rainfall.

Noticing the bird’s condition, the local resident immediately secured it to prevent further harm and brought it to CENRO Kiamba on the same day.

The office has taken custody of the species and will closely monitor its condition. Wildlife personnel will ensure the bird receives necessary care and rehabilitation.

Once it regains strength and is declared fit, it will be released back into its natural habitat.

Serpent eagles belong to the genus Spilornis and subfamily Circaetinae, and are specialized birds of prey that primarily feed on snakes and other reptiles. They are found throughout tropical Asia and are characterized by a stocky build, broad rounded wings, and a distinctive bushy nuchal crest that puffs up when alarmed.
