Groups on Saturday dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte’s video statement on the impeachment complaint against her, calling it merely a “piece of paper.”
The Akbayan party-list said the Vice President appeared desperate and urged her to stop making excuses.
“For something that she insists has no merit, it rattled her enough to release a video message—not to answer the charges, but to desperately attack us,” the group said on a Facebook post.
“Enough excuses. Prepare to go down in history as the first vice president to be impeached—not once, but twice,” they added.
Meanwhile, Tindig Pilipinas co-convenor Kiko Aquino-Dee noted that the Vice President has remained silent on the serious threats she allegedly made against high-ranking government officials.
“They cannot think of any justification for why such threats of violence would not be considered an impeachable offense,” he said.
At the same time, the group said they are willing to hear the arguments and evidence Sara Duterte’s camp will present, to better understand her perspective.
The group also pointed out that many of those allegedly threatened have themselves committed numerous wrongs against the public, adding another layer of complexity to the issue.
