The Land Transportation Office has issued a show-cause order against a motorcycle rider caught performing a dangerous “superman stunt” along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, following the circulation of a viral video on social media.
In the video, originally posted on Facebook and later reposted on various platforms, the rider was seen lying face down on his motorcycle in a so-called “superman” position, apparently to gain speed through aerodynamics.
“Guys ito binakbakan aq (ako) nagulat aq bigla aq hinigaan,” the rider wrote in the video caption.
Aside from the stunt, the footage also showed the rider not wearing a helmet, wearing flip-flops, and operating a motorcycle with continuous exhaust backfires.
The LTO said the act “clearly threatens the safety of the public” and directed the rider to appear before the agency’s Investigation Division at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Both the rider and the registered owner of the motorcycle were ordered to submit notarized explanations on why they should not face administrative charges, including reckless driving and violations for not wearing proper helmet and footwear while operating a motorcycle.
The respondents were also directed to explain why the rider’s license should not be suspended or canceled for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The motorcycle involved in the incident has been placed under alarm status, while the rider’s driver’s license was temporarily suspended for 90 days pending the outcome of the investigation. The rider was also ordered to surrender his license immediately.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the agency will not tolerate reckless behavior on the road, stressing that such actions endanger public safety.
“Ang insidenteng ito ay malinaw na paglabag sa mga batas trapiko, at ipapakita natin na walang sinuman ang makakalusot sa mga parusa kung sila ay mapapatunayang nagkasala,” Lacanilao said.
“Hinihikayat din natin ang lahat ng mga motorista na laging igalang ang mga batas trapiko at isipin palagi ang kanilang kaligtasan nila at ng iba,” he added.
