Police corporal faces probe for abuse

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) Region 9 in the Zamboanga Peninsula has launched its own investigation into a police corporal accused of threatening, intimidating, and psychologically abusing his wife and child. The move could lead to the filing of an administrative case.

According to a report from Napolcom Region 9 Director Pablito M. Abad, Jr. to Napolcom chief Commissioner Ralph Calinisan, the officer — identified as Police Corporal Henry Torres Boquida Jr. — was arrested on Monday, 19 January by the Rizal Municipal Police Station in Zamboanga del Norte. Boquida is currently assigned to the Sapangdalaga Municipal Police Station in Misamis Occidental.

His arrest followed a Warrant of Arrest issued by Honorable Florindo Bolante Opay, Presiding Judge of the Family Court, 9th Judicial Region, Dapitan City. The warrant cites alleged violations of Sections 5(b) and 5(i) of Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

The case stems from a complaint filed by Boquida’s legal wife, who alleged that he threatened to physically harm her and their child and subjected them to psychological abuse — acts punishable under the law.

Napolcom emphasized that it remains committed to upholding discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights within the police force. The commission added that it will pursue appropriate administrative action independently of the criminal proceedings, in full compliance with existing laws, rules and regulations.
