The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued a distressed fisherman in the waters off Mariveles, Bataan on 22 January 2026.
The PCG said the fisherman was spotted near Hornos Point, Mariveles, by the BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408), which was en route to Bajo de Masinloc to conduct a maritime patrol.
Personnel aboard the 44-meter PCG vessel noticed the fisherman waving his hands and using red flags to signal distress. The crew immediately deployed a rigid hull inflatable boat to render assistance.
The rescued individual was identified as a 35-year-old resident of Barangay Biyaan in Mariveles.
He sustained a first-degree burn on his right thigh after coming into contact with the fishing banca’s engine exhaust pipe. The PCG’s onboard medical team provided immediate medical treatment and psychosocial support.
Responding personnel attempted to restart the banca’s engine but found that its portside outrigger had loosened, rendering the vessel inoperable.
The BRP Cape San Agustin coordinated with Coast Guard Station Bataan and the Coast Guard Sub-Station Mariveles for support before proceeding to Mariveles Harbor.
The rescued fisherman was later turned over to Coast Guard Sub-Station Mariveles for further assistance and monitoring.
