The Quezon City Police District reported the arrest of a 42-year-old man for illegal possession of firearms during an anti-criminality operation in Quezon City.

QCPD Acting District Director Randy Glenn Silvio identified the suspect as alias “Mark,” a resident of Barangay Tandang Sora.

The arrest was made by operatives of Talipapa Police Station (PS 3) under the supervision of Von Aeljandrino during an anti-criminality operation conducted at around 11 p.m. on 18 January 2026 in an alley in Barangay Tandang Sora.

Based on the police report, the suspect was caught “inspecting” a firearm. Authorities approached him and asked for the necessary legal documents for the gun, but he failed to present any, prompting his arrest.

Police confiscated a .22-caliber revolver loaded with live ammunition.

The suspect underwent inquest proceedings for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. QCPD said a records check showed that the suspect had a previous record dated 2016.

According to the Philippine National Police, the suspect chose to remain silent in the absence of legal counsel and was later brought to a government hospital for a physical examination before being taken to the police station for investigation and proper disposition.

The confiscated firearm and ammunition will undergo ballistic examination, while firearm verification will be coordinated with appropriate units, police said.

PNP Acting Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the arrest underscores authorities’ firm stance against the proliferation of loose firearms.

“Kapag may baril at walang permit, malinaw ang batas—kikilos and pulisya pata protektahan ang publiko,” Nartatez said.

Silvio said the QCPD will continue to intensify operations against illegal possession of firearms as part of its anti-criminality drive.

“Patuloy naming paiigtingin Ang among operasyon upang mahuli Ang sinumang may dalang baril nang walang lisensya at masiguro ang kaligtaan at kapayapaan ng baway QCitizen,” Silvio said.
