Senator JV Ejercito was named a 2025 The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) awardee by the Junior Chamber International Senate of the Philippines (JCISP) in recognition of his impact on public service.

Ejercito was cited for his significant role in the healthcare sector, particularly as the author and principal sponsor of Republic Act No. 11223, or the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act. The law aims to ensure quality healthcare services for Filipinos through the automatic enrollment of all citizens in PhilHealth, providing comprehensive coverage and financial protection.

“In my experience, I have seen the struggles faced by many Filipino families—one of the heaviest being health concerns. A single illness can change a life. One hospitalization can plunge a family into debt,” Ejercito said in Filipino.

He described the Universal Health Care Act as “ambitious” but a necessary reform, adding that the honor of being an awardee serves as a reminder that his work in public service does not end.

“We need to empathize with the situation of our fellow citizens and do what will improve their lives,” he added.

TOFIL is an annual award recognizing outstanding Filipinos aged 41 and above for their meaningful contributions to society.

Other 2025 awardees include Rene Meily, representing the private sector; Dr. Neil Aldrin Mallari for the NGO and civil sector; former Trade and Industry secretary Alfredo Pascual for the government sector; and Dr. Maria Minerva Calimag from the academic community.
