Authorities seized some 203 board feet of Bagtikan lumber during an operation at Sitio Sta. Monica, Barangay Dilaguidi in the town of Dilasag, Aurora on 7 January 2026.
The Aurora 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company said its personnel responded to information received through the Barangay Information Network (BIN) regarding abandoned illegally sawn lumber in the area.
Led by Police Capt. Rommel T. Manahan, operation officer, and in coordination with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Casiguran, authorities recovered Bagtikan lumber measuring 203 board feet, with an estimated value of P14,210.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Lt. Col. Jude Bryan B. Maguddayao, acting force commander. The seized lumber was turned over to the CENRO-Casiguran office for proper disposition in accordance with existing forestry laws.
Bagtikan lumber, sourced from the Philippine tree Parashorea malaanonan, is a light-colored, fine-grained tropical hardwood commonly used for plywood, light construction, furniture, and interior finishes. Internationally, it is known as White Seraya.
The species is native to the Philippines and is classified as endangered due to overexploitation and habitat loss, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement of forestry regulations and sustainable conservation efforts.
