The city government and the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) conducted an artificial insemination program to boost the population of buffalo and cattle livestock in the Tarlac City.
A total of 49 dairy buffalo and cattle farmers participated in the program, which was held from 15 to 20 December 2025, in Barangays Aguso, Alvindia, Balanti, Balibago I, Care, Dalayap, Sapang Maragul, San Pascual, San Juan De Mata, San Jose, Sta. Cruz, Sta. Maria, and Tibagan.
During the activity, 67 carabaos and 29 cattle were artificially inseminated using high-quality genetic material from improved breeds. Around 85 livestock animals also underwent estrus synchronization, with 11 inseminated through natural heat and 12 subjected to pregnancy diagnosis.
Vitamin supplementation was provided to 62 livestock animals, while 34 were dewormed under the basic health services of the City Veterinarian Office.
Through the initiative, the city government expects the livestock to produce higher-quality meat and milk, helping strengthen the local livestock sector.
The artificial insemination program for cattle uses collected bull semen frozen in straws to manually impregnate cows, allowing for rapid genetic improvement, better disease control, and reduced reliance on live bulls by depositing sperm into the female reproductive tract at the precise time of estrus.
Key steps include accurate heat detection, often using the “am/pm rule,” proper handling of frozen semen, and precise deposition into the uterus using a specialized insemination gun to ensure higher conception rates and improved milk and meat production.
