The Department of Transportation’s Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (DOTr MRT-3) issued an apology on Tuesday, 6 January, following a viral video showing severe overcrowding at Cubao station.

The video, which circulated on 5 January during the post-holiday rush, showed passengers around 7:25 a.m. arriving from the elevators and struggling to fit onto the already congested station platform.

MRT-3 acknowledged its shortcomings in allowing passengers to continue accessing the platform despite the congestion and promised to improve its services.

“Our personnel are intensifying monitoring and coordination on the ground to improve crowd management and ensure a safer, more orderly commute, especially during peak hours,” the statement said.

The agency assured the public that, following instructions given by Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati, similar incidents will not happen again.
