The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has begun renovation works at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) ahead of the Philippine Women’s Open (WTA 125), scheduled from 26 to 31 January 2026.

According to a Facebook post by the PSC, the upgrades are being undertaken in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“The RMSC transformation kicks off with the perfect partner. Thank you to DPWH led by Sec. Vince Dizon, for the all-out support for sports tourism,” PSC Chairman Pato Gregorio said.

Refurbishment works are also ongoing at the tennis courts inside the complex, with three of the seven courts set to be used for the tournament.

The inaugural women’s tennis event in the Philippines will feature a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw.

The tournament marks the country’s first hosting of an international sporting event in 2026, following a series of successful hostings in 2025, including the FIVB Men’s World Championship, FIFA Women’s Futsal, and the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships.

The participation of Philippine tennis standout Alex Eala in the event remains uncertain, as the tournament schedule coincides with the Australian Open, which will be held from 12 January to 1 February 2026.

Should Eala make a deep run in the Australian Open, Filipino fans may have to wait for another opportunity to see her compete on home soil.
