A 24-year-old security guard shot and killed his two colleagues while they were asleep following a Christmas Eve drinking session at their workplace, a car dealership along Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay North Fairview, Quezon City.
On Christmas morning, operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested the suspect in a follow-up operation at a compound along Mayhaligue Street near Rivera Street in Barangay 241, Tondo, Manila.
QCPD Acting Director Randy Glenn Silvio, identified the suspect as alias “Charren,” a native of Barangay 20, Cagayan de Oro City.
Silvio said the victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head and throat, as they were already sleeping when the suspect shot them.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Roldante Sarmiento, commander of QCPD Station 5 (Fairview), said the three security guards were having a drinking session inside the establishment they were guarding at around 1 p.m. on 24 December.
A sales executive who was present and preparing to leave witnessed the aftermath. According to police, the witness said the suspect approached him and declared his intent to kill the two guards for allegedly bullying him. The witness then saw the suspect head toward the service lounge area, followed by the sound of two gunshots.
The witness rushed to the area and found the lifeless bodies of the victims lying on a sofa. The suspect fled the scene on foot and later boarded a taxi.
The incident was immediately reported to QCPD Station 5, which launched a hot pursuit operation. In coordination with the Manila Police District, the suspect was arrested at around 9:15 a.m. on December 25.
Recovered from the suspect were a 9mm Rock Island pistol with magazine, six fired cartridge cases, two fired bullets, one live cartridge, bottles of liquor, two cellular phones owned by the victims, one upper security uniform, a security ID, and a backpack containing a mobile phone and several items of clothing.
Silvio said the suspect will face two counts of murder and robbery before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
He commended the operatives for their swift action that led to the suspect’s arrest in less than 24 hours.
“This successful operation demonstrates that even during the holiday season, the QCPD remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring justice for victims and maintaining peace and order in Quezon City,” he said.
