I first laid eyes on the Toyota Tamaraw, named after the Mindoro dwarf buffalo, in 1976. At the time, it was Delta Motors that manufactured the unit.
As the years passed, the Toyota Tamaraw became a vehicle that Filipinos grew to love and appreciate, not only because of its affordability, but also because of its handling and reliability on the road.
It was because of this reliability that the Toyota Tamaraw served as a precursor to several Toyota utility and multipurpose vehicles (MPVs). For the last few decades, Toyota has been growing alongside the Filipino car culture by providing vehicle variants that continue to meet every need of the Filipino car lover and rider, be it business, agriculture and also the more important family car.
A tough legend returns
It is no wonder that towards the end of 2024, the Toyota Tamaraw made a comeback into the Philippine market. The Next Generation Tamaraw is TMP’s answer to the ever-evolving needs of Filipino businesses and families. Its stock variants, in particular the Dropside, Utility Van and Aluminum Cargo, offer micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) the workhorse they need to start a life of new possibilities.
The 2025 Toyota Tamaraw is available with a choice of two engines, manual or automatic transmissions and multiple seating configurations depending on the variant.
There is the 2.4-liter Turbodiesel (2GD-FTV): Found in most long-wheelbase (LWB) and GL variants, it produces 148-150 hp at 3,400 rpm and a max torque of 343 Nm (manual transmission) or 400 Nm (automatic transmission) at 1,400-2,800 rpm.
The 2.0-liter Gasoline (1TR-FE), available in the short-wheelbase (SWB) versions, is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission with an option for a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Toyota Tamaraw has a seating capacity that ranges from two-seater pickup/cargo configurations to 12-seater (SWB) or 14-seater (LWB) utility van configurations.
It is available in Super White II, Silver Metallic and Black.
Built for the Pinoy
It is no wonder that the Toyota Tamaraw is a dedicated work vehicle, delivering robust performance and reliability that justifies its sturdy build for business owners who need a dependable performer. It is loved for its comfortable ride. But, more importantly, it is a functional and heavy-duty utility vehicle that lives up to its legacy as a tough Filipino workhorse.
