The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) on Wednesday reaffirmed its support for the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. amid accusations from the Chief Executive’s sister, Senator Imee Marcos, that the First Family is using illegal drugs.
In a manifesto of support issued by the LMP, the league described the “current political noise and internal friction” as “unnecessary distractions” that disrupt momentum and divert attention from urgent public service.
The manifesto states that any threat to the stability of the Office of the President is a threat to the welfare and progress of every municipality.
“Our provincial presidents representing their chapters signed this Manifeso because we see the progress being made at the local level. We must protect this momentum,” said LMP national president and Echague, Isabela Mayor Faustino “Inno” Dy V.
“Our focus must remain absolute and that is public service, not political friction,” he added.
The LMP also called on all national government parties to exercise restraint, demonstrate professionalism, and prioritize collaborative governance to ensure uninterrupted public service.
The league further affirmed its commitment to upholding integrity and supports the President’s continued effort to stamp out corruption.
The LMP likewise urged all Filipinos and public servants to rally behind the constitutionally mandated leadership for a prosperous and stable Philippines.
On Monday evening, Senator Marcos, in her speech during the anti-corruption rally organized by the Iglesia Ni Cristo at the Quirino Grandstand, accused her brother, the First Lady, and some of the President’s friends of using illegal drugs.
Malacañang rejected the allegations, describing them as a “desperate move.”
The presidential son, House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, also denied the accusation of his aunt, saying it has “no basis, no truth, and will bring nothing good to the nation.”
