The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) honored external partners, including Dr. Bernardita C. Navarro, medical director of the Tzu Chi Eye Center, during the agency’s 120th Foundation Day celebration at its national headquarters in Muntinlupa City on Wednesday.

The ceremony recognized stakeholders who have provided valuable support and benevolent assistance to the bureau and to the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) under its care.

BuCor director general Gregorio Catapang Jr. presented certificates of appreciation to the honorees, including members of the media.

Catapang said the contributions have “greatly impacted the lives of persons deprived of liberty... fostering an environment of rehabilitation and hope.”

The Tzu Chi Eye Center was specifically recognized for its assistance to PDLs with eye problems, particularly cataracts.

This, as Navarro said the center has processed 100 PDLs with cataracts and has so far operated on 75 individuals.

Also receiving recognition was DAILY TRIBUNE Senior Reporter Alvin Murcia for his support to the reformation of BuCor facilities. Murcia, who covers the Justice beat, extended his gratitude to Catapang for the honor.
