CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – As Super Typhoon 'Uwan' barrels toward Central Luzon, SM City Pampanga is offering a lifeline to worried motorists: free parking to protect their vehicles from potential floodwaters.
The initiative, announced on Friday, 07 November 2025, provides free overnight parking on 08 and 09 November, aiming to offer a secure location for vehicles and alleviate concerns about potential flood damage, a worry shared by many local residents.
The Daily Tribune conducted random interviews with motorists, many of whom expressed amazement at the move.
"I live near the river, and iniisip ko talaga kung magiging matindi ang impact ni Uwan, delikado din mga sasakyan namin," said Eric Santos, a resident of San Fernando. ("I'm really thinking that if 'Uwan' has a strong impact, our vehicles will be in danger.") "When I heard about the free parking, I was so relieved. It's a big help knowing my car will be safe from flooding."
Another motorist, Elena dela Cruz, echoed the sentiment, saying, "Maganda itong ginawa nila, malaking tulong ito lalo sa mga nasa lugar na laging bahain." ("What they did is good; this is a big help, especially for those in areas that always flood.")
Many motorists have expressed concerns about the potential for flooding in low-lying areas.
"What happened in Cebu was terrible," said Ber Guinoo, a commuter from Angeles City, referring to recent news of vehicles being damaged in floods during Typhoon "Tino" in the Visayas. "It's smart of SM to offer this. It shows they're paying attention and trying to help us avoid the same situation here."
Motorists are encouraged to take advantage of the offer and prioritize the safety of their vehicles during the typhoon.
