The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the country’s largest power distributor, has placed its crews and personnel on full alert as Tropical Cyclone Uwan approaches the country.
The power distributor said Friday that it is ready to respond to electricity-related concerns from strong winds and heavy rains in its franchise areas.
“Meralco crews, personnel, and response teams are on standby 24/7 and strategically positioned to address electricity service concerns,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.
He also reminded the public to exercise caution in flood-prone areas, where the risk of electrical accidents is higher.
Meralco advised customers to turn off the main power switch or circuit breaker during flooding, unplug appliances, and ensure all electrical equipment is dry before use. Flood-damaged devices should never be used, and a licensed electrician should inspect wiring before restoring power.
