Senator Lito Lapid said he is contacting various local government units (LGUs) in Cebu in a bid to extend assistance to residents in need who have been affected by Typhoon Tino.

"Nakikipag-ugnayan na rin ang inyong lingkod sa iba't ibang LGUs para malamang kung ano ang maitutulong ng ating tanggapan sa mga nangangailangan nating kababayan (I am coordinating with the LGUs there to know what kind of help my office can give to Cebuanos affected)," Lapid said in a statement published on Friday, 7 November.

Cebu, a province still reeling from a deadly earthquake last September, recorded the highest number of fatalities at 139, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

The province also logged the highest number of people missing at 79.

"Hindi po biro ang pinagdaraanan ng ating mga kababayan sa Cebu dahil sa dobleng dagot ang tumama sa kanila matapos ang malakas na lindol kamakailan lang po (What our fellow Cebuanos are going through right now is no joke because they were just hit by a powerful earthquake recently)," Lapid continued.

He also expressed his sympathies to the residents who lost their loved ones in the typhoon and asked the public to offer prayers to typhoon-hit Cebu.

"Nakikiramay po ako sa mga pamilya na naulila ng mga nasawi sa bagyo at ipagdasal din po natin ang ating mga kababayan na makabangon at malagpasan ang mga pagsubok na ito (I sympathize with the families who were bereaved by those who died in the typhoon and let us also pray that our fellow Cebuanos rise up and overcome these trials)."
