The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said the local rido-related conflict between community groups escalated until Tuesday in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan is “now under control.”

“The incident is now under control, with the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) and the Provincial Government of Basilan facilitating dialogue and de-escalation,” AFP Public Affairs Chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad told Defense reporters at Camp Aguinaldo.

Trinidad said the AFP, through the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) and Joint Task Force Orion, continued to coordinate closely with the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Basilan Council of Elders, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) leadership “to restore normalcy and protect civilians.”

“We urge the public to remain calm and continue supporting the peace process,” Trinidad said.

“The AFP remains committed to sustaining peace and stability in Basilan and across Mindanao through cooperation, trust, and shared responsibility,” he added.

According to WESTMINCOM spokesperson Lt. Col. Venjie Pendon, the military has been informed of a series of armed clashes since Monday morning, 27 October.

“Government troops continue to exercise tactical restraint to avoid the further escalation of hostilities while ensuring the safety of the civilian populace,” Pendon said.

Further, the Joint Task Group Basilan said it continues to coordinate with the community leaders, local government units, and peace partners to prevent further violence and sustain reconciliation efforts among the involved communities
