President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. returned to northern Cebu on Friday to follow through on government efforts to assist communities devastated by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the province on 30 September.

The President’s visit to multiple sites in San Remigio and Bogo City—two of the hardest-hit areas—marks his second in just over two weeks, reaffirming the administration’s continued commitment to the recovery and welfare of quake-affected residents.

In San Remigio, Marcos visited the Bayanihan Village in Barangay Poblacion, where the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has constructed modular shelter units (MSUs) to provide displaced families with safer and more dignified temporary homes. 

These units were installed within days of the disaster, underscoring the government's push for a rapid and coordinated response.

He then proceeded to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City, which suffered significant structural damage during the quake. 

Marcos personally inspected the ongoing repairs being carried out by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and assured health workers and patients of the government's continued support.

The President also visited Tent City in Bogo City, where hundreds of families remain displaced. He checked the delivery of essential services in the area — including electricity, clean water, portable toilets, mobile bathing stations, and mobile kitchens — ensuring that the immediate needs of evacuees are met.

Marcos earlier ordered the release of more than P200 million in assistance from the Office of the President for local government units (LGUs) affected by the earthquake.

The aid package included P50 million for the Cebu Provincial Government; P20 million each for Bogo City, San Remigio, and Sogod; and P10 million each for the municipalities of Bantayan, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Medellin, Santa Fe, Tabogon, and Tabuelan.

In addition, Marcos directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to release the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) to Cebu’s provincial and municipal governments for rehabilitation and recovery operations.

Following the quake, President Marcos mobilized a whole-of-government response, instructing key national agencies, including the DHSUD, DPWH, DSWD, and DOH, to immediately coordinate with local officials in delivering emergency services, rebuilding critical infrastructure, and ensuring the continued delivery of healthcare, education, and livelihood assistance.

The magnitude 6.9 earthquake, with its epicenter located off the coast near Bogo City, caused widespread structural damage, displaced thousands, and disrupted local economies across northern Cebu.
