CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Three Chinese nationals were apprehended in Barangay Calantipe, Apalit, Pampanga, on Friday, October 17, for allegedly violating Republic Act No. 9211, the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003.

A joint operation by the Pampanga Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Apalit Municipal Police Station led to the arrest after authorities received information about the illegal distribution of unregulated tobacco products in the area.

The suspects were caught selling 10 boxes of Modern brand cigarettes to a poseur buyer in exchange for marked money. Upon their arrest, they failed to present the required permits to sell or distribute tobacco products, in violation of Republic Act No. 9211, or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003.

Authorities seized 40 boxes of Modern brand cigarettes worth ₱480,000, a white Foton aluminum van, ₱60,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade, and buy-bust money consisting of one genuine ₱1,000 bill and 11 pieces of boodle money.

“This operation sends a strong warning to all those who attempt to violate Philippine laws for personal gain," said PBGen Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones, Jr., Regional Director of PRO3.  "Smuggling and illegal trade of counterfeit and unregulated tobacco products not only harm legitimate businesses but also endanger public health and the economy,” he added.

The operation underscores PRO3’s support for the PNP’s intensified crackdown on smuggling and illicit trade, prioritizing public safety and economic security nationwide.
