Many towns in Pampanga were inundated after weeks of monsoon rains, preventing households from safely getting food, water and other daily supplies.
The situation prompted foundations under the MVP group of companies to launch a relief goods distribution mission to the province.
One Meralco Foundation (OMF) activated the MVP Tulong Kapatid program that delivered relief packs to residents affected by the disaster.
OMF, PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), Metro Pacific Investments Foundation, Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc. (AKFI), and Maynilad Water Services Inc. handed the food and water to Governor Lilia Pineda for distribution to people affected by the floods.
The MVP Tulong Kapatid is just one part of the disaster response initiatives aimed at extending assistance to affected Filipinos in their time of need. It includes volunteers from and other MVP foundations
Among the villages reached by the relief operation is Barangay Colgante in Apalit, which has been submerged in floodwaters for over a month.
One of its residents, father of four Jake Maglalang, has been unable to operate his tricycle because the flooding persisted. He was thankful when volunteers from OMF, AKFI and PSF traveled by boat to the Holy Family Parish Colgante to distribute relief packs.
OMF volunteers were assisted by the Philippine National Police Apalit Municipal Police Station and the Apalit Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office in delivering aid to locals.
