Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for prioritizing the education sector in the proposed 2026 National Expenditure Program (NEP).

In the proposed budget, DepEd will receive P928.5 billion.

“The P928.5 billion allocation for DepEd is clear proof of the President’s advocacy for making higher-quality, more modern, and better education a part of his administration’s legacy,” Angara said in Filipino.

He also commended the President for allocating P1.2 trillion to the entire education sector, with DepEd receiving the largest share, followed by State Universities and Colleges with P134.99 billion and the Special Education Fund with P66.86 billion.

Other major allocations include P34 billion for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), P30.27 billion for BARMM education, and P20.24 billion for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Support programs are also covered, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s feeding program with P6.11 billion, the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Science High School with P3.05 billion, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Early Childhood Care and Development Council with P357.1 million.

In 2025, DepEd’s budget was reduced by nearly P12 billion.
