The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has commended the Senate for its decision to archive the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, calling the move “politic and prudent.”
Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, the party’s spokesperson on impeachment matters, said PDP-Laban welcomed the decision made under the leadership of Senate President Francis Escudero.
He said the Senate’s move aligned with the “clear and unmistakable tenor” of a Supreme Court ruling that was immediately executory.
Topacio also noted that the decision averted a potential constitutional crisis, praising the majority of senators for upholding the Constitution.
He criticized some senators’ opposition to the motion, describing it as “misguided and misleading filibustering” fueled by “a desire for political vendetta.”
“In the face of misguided and misleading filibustering…the greater majority chose the path of following the Constitution, thus averting a possible crisis,” Topacio stated.
He added that the debate exposed a lack of constitutional law knowledge among some senators — something he described as “dangerous.”
“This lack of knowledge is dangerous in people who were elected to draft laws for the Republic,” Topacio said, adding that the Senate’s decision underscored its role as a body of “mature statesmen.”
