Authorities in Nueva Ecija are investigating a shooting incident involving two teenagers that took place inside a school classroom in Barangay Rizal, Sta. Rosa town, on Thursday morning.
According to Police Regional Office 3 (Central Luzon), a 15-year-old female student was shot in the neck by a male teenager identified only as “Leo” at around 10:45 AM. After firing at the victim, the suspect reportedly turned the weapon on himself.
Both students were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their current medical condition has not been disclosed.
Initial reports said the suspect entered the classroom, drew a .22-caliber firearm from his waist, and shot the victim without warning. Investigators are still determining the motive and how the suspect obtained the gun.
Police Regional Director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones said they are coordinating closely with the school administration to ensure the safety of other students. Crisis intervention support has also been offered to those affected.
“This alarming incident reminds us of the importance of safeguarding our schools and taking a serious look at the emotional and psychological well-being of our youth,” Peñones said in a statement.
Police have pledged swift action in uncovering the full details of the case and implementing measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
