A 68-year-old former journalist and village watchman was hacked to death by his drinking companion early Wednesday morning in Rodriguez, Rizal.
Authorities identified the victim as Norberto “Bert” Javier.
The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. inside the suspect’s store in Sitio Wawa, Barangay San Rafael, according to the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station.
Initial investigation revealed Javier and suspect Victor Enavia — a businessman — were drinking together before the attack. For reasons yet to be determined, Enavia allegedly hacked Javier multiple times.
A concerned citizen alerted police, who found Javier with multiple wounds at the scene. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Enavia was immediately arrested and is in police custody.
Authorities discovered the suspect allegedly filmed the brutal killing on his mobile phone. The video reportedly shows Enavia hacking the victim multiple times in the neck and other body parts while Javier was apparently asleep and intoxicated.
In the video, the suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of illegal drugs, was heard saying, “I am the legend of Wawa. Remember this, you fools! Remember, I am not some ordinary person, you fools!”
He then added, “Sorry, I don’t know what I’m doing.”
Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing.
