Five Filipino seafarers survived a maritime missile attack off the coast of Oman and safely returned to the country Sunday night via Qatar Airways Flight QR928 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

The workers were part of a 28-man crew aboard the Indian-flagged cargo vessel M/V Cape Dao, which was en route from Mina Saqr, United Arab Emirates, to India when it was targeted in international waters.

According to maritime reports, two unidentified projectiles struck the port side of the vessel, damaging the ship’s accommodation area and engine room, which sparked a fire on board.

Upon arrival in Pasay City, representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Department of Migrant Workers, and the Manila International Airport Authority medical team provided processing, health evaluations, and financial aid.

The crew’s licensed manning agency coordinated post-arrival logistics, including medical checkups, temporary lodging and transportation home to their respective provinces.

OWWA announced that its regional welfare offices will continue providing long-term reintegration services, psycho-social assistance, and livelihood evaluations for the affected seafarers.
