About 88 percent of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are currently undergoing antiretroviral therapy (ART).

"This is proof that continuous ART for PLHIV helps them reach Undetectable = Untransmittable status more quickly," the Department of Health (DOH) said.

According to the Health Department, ART is a treatment that involves taking medications to suppress the HIV virus and prevent it from replicating in the body.

Enrolling in ART is a crucial step for PLHIV to manage their health, improve their quality of life, and prevent the transmission of HIV, the agency explained.

"Don't be afraid to get an HIV test. If you test positive, there is free and effective treatment to maintain a healthy lifestyle," the DOH said.

Previously, the DOH announced it has mounted a total of 299 HIV care facilities across the country.

Of the figure, 169 HIV care facilities are in Luzon, 71 in the Visayas, and 59 in Mindanao.

These facilities provide access to ART and comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment, and care services.

Also among the services offered are combination prevention methods (condoms, lubricants, and pre-exposure prophylaxis), HIV screening and confirmatory testing, and mental health and psychosocial support.
