The Philippines has been nominated in three major categories at the 24th Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, one of the most prestigious honors in the global travel industry, the Department of Tourism (DOT) announced.
Organized by Wanderlust, the United Kingdom’s longest-running and largest travel magazine, the awards recognize excellence in global travel destinations as determined by readers. The Philippines is among the contenders for one of the top prizes, “Most Desirable Country (Worldwide).”
In addition to the countrywide nomination, two of the Philippines' most renowned destinations are also in the running: Cebu for “Most Desirable Region (Worldwide)” and Palawan for “Most Desirable Island (Worldwide).”
The Philippines is also eligible for wins in several subcategories within the “Most Desirable Country” classification, including Culture and Heritage, Nature and Wildlife, Adventure, Gastronomy, and Sustainability.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said the nominations reflect the country’s growing reputation as a leading international destination.
“These nominations inspire not only us in the Department of Tourism, but also everyone in our country’s tourism sector to persist in our mission to share with the world the Philippines’ beauty in terms of nature, heritage, and culture, and also the warmth of our people,” Frasco said in a statement.
She also urged Filipinos and international travelers to support the country's bid: “I would personally like to call on once again our fellow Filipinos, as well as our foreign friends, to show love for the Philippines by choosing it in the upcoming 24th Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards. Let us show the world how our love for this country, teeming with natural wonders, a rich culture and heritage, and a people that are always welcoming to guests near and far, will help boost our reputation as a leading destination to love.”
Wanderlust said over 200,000 unique votes are expected for this year’s awards, with results determined entirely by public voting.
Those wishing to vote can do so by filling out the online form at https://wanderlusttravelawards.com and following Wanderlust’s official Facebook and Instagram pages. Voting is open until 27 October 2025.
Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on 5 November 2025, at the National Gallery in London.
