The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the nationwide barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections (BSKE) voter registration from 1 to 10 August.
This comes as the Comelec awaits President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s decision on the bill postponing the BSKE and extending their terms to four years.
"The resumption of voter registration for the upcoming BSKE was approved earlier. This registration will be done so that we can have voters, especially in SK who are 15 to 17 years old, who will vote for the BSKE on 1 December," Comelec Chairperson George Garcia told reporters.
Garcia also clarified that those who will register for the upcoming voter registration in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will not be able to vote for the first BARMM Parliamentary Elections on 13 October.
"This will not affect those in the Bangsamoro. Meaning those who register in the Bangsamoro as new voters will not be able to vote for the Bangsamoro Parliamentary polls," he added.
Garcia also announced that the poll body will launch a "Register Anywhere Program" in Metro Manila from 1 to 7 August in areas near select hospitals, call center hubs, bus transport terminals, and even in airports.
Originally set on 1 December, the BSKE will be fully manual. It has a P11 billion budget allocated for the whole conduct of the polls.
