CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — An army trooper was killed when the motorcycle he was driving rammed head on with truck ferrying coffins along the national highway in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental before dawn Wednesday.
Police report identified the victim as Resvonni Pastoverde Almiranes, 33, from North Cotabato, currently assigned to the Philippine Army in Malitbog, Bukidnon.
According to Villanueva Municipal police traffic investigator Police Cpl. Harry Rodrigo, at about 4 a.m., the tow funeral truck and the motorcycle were traveling in opposite directions when the accident happened.
The truck was returning to Cagayan de Oro after delivering coffins from Agusan del Norte when the victim who was traveling in the opposite direction suddenly swerved into the opposite lane colliding head on with the truck.
The impact threw the victim into the road side also causing damage on the front side of the truck.
Responding rescuers rushed the victim who sustained severe head injuries to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
The driver of the truck surrendered to the Villanueva police station.
