A minor spark from a power bank disrupted operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Monday afternoon, briefly triggering safety protocols and emergency response.

According to the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), smoke was observed coming from Baggage Carousel 3 at around 4:55 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of airport emergency teams. Passengers in the area were safely escorted away as responders secured the site and implemented ventilation measures.

Less than an hour later, authorities confirmed that the smoke was caused by a power bank that may have fallen onto the carousel system.

“The device caused a minor spark, which produced the smoke. There was no open flame, and the carousel remained fully operational after testing,” NNIC said in a statement.

Cleanup was promptly conducted, and airport operations resumed without disruption.

“We thank all responding teams and partner agencies for their swift action. The safety and well-being of passengers remain our top priority,” the NNIC added.
