The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) reported that a Canadian senior citizen was arrested on Friday upon his arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in connection with an outstanding arrest warrant for libel.
Authorities said members of the Southern Police District Anti-Cybercrime Team and PNP-AVSEGROUP jointly served the warrant, which was dated 18 May 2016.
PNP-AVSEGROUP Director P/Brig. Gen. Christopher M. Abecia reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing the law within the country’s aviation hubs, stating:
“Our mission is to ensure the safety and security of the aviation sector. We will continue to uphold the law and ensure that all individuals facing legal accountability are brought to justice.”
The accused is currently in the custody of the Anti-Cybercrime Team while awaiting the return of the warrant to the court of origin or the posting of bail.
