The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed Friday that the mother of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Danmark Masongsong, who survived the car-ramming incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 that killed his four-year-old daughter Malia, has been discharged from the hospital and returned home to Batangas.

In a statement, DMW Calabarzon regional director April Casabuena disclosed that Masongsong’s mother was discharged on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the OFW’s wife, Cynthia, who underwent surgery at a hospital in Taguig City, is still recovering.

“Hopefully, Ms. Cynthia will be discharged this week. We are just waiting for the doctor’s clearance,” Casabuena said.

Masongsong’s family members were at the airport to see him off before his flight to Europe to continue his work as an assembly line operator.

Casabuena revealed that the DMW has provided the OFW’s family with funeral, financial, legal, and psychosocial assistance.

Meantime, DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac visited the wake of Masongsong’s daughter last 5 May to convey President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s condolences. The agency also assisted Masongsong in coordinating with his employer abroad through the Migrant Workers Office in Prague.
