The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division on Thursday disqualified Pasig lone district representative candidate Christian "Ian" Sia over lewd and sexist remarks made during his campaign, particularly targeting single mothers.
Sia is the only candidate to have received two show-cause orders from the Comelec Task Force Safe.
The first was issued in response to a joke he made during a campaign sortie about single mothers.
"Minsan sa isang taon, ang mga solo parent na babae ay nireregla pa at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon, pwedeng sumiping ho sa akin (Once a year, single-parent women still menstruate and feel sad. Once a year, you can have sex with me)," Sia said while campaigning under the Team Kaya This ticket.
The second show-cause order was issued over a separate incident involving remarks that appeared to fat-shame his former assistant, who is also a woman.
Sia may still appeal the poll body’s ruling.
Should he receive the most votes in the upcoming election, his proclamation will be suspended pending the final resolution of his case.
