Makati City Mayor and senatorial candidate Abby Binay secured the endorsement of 31 mayors from various cities and municipalities across Cebu during a meet-and-greet event in Cebu City on Tuesday, 22 April.
Binay, who is seeking a Senate seat in the 2025 elections, thanked the local chief executives for their support. She emphasized that amending the "1991 Local Government Code" will be among her top legislative priorities if elected.
“It is crucial in strengthening the capability of local governments to respond to the needs of their constituents,” Binay said.
The gathering was also attended by Congresswoman Rhea Gullas and Congressman Peter John Calderon.
The endorsement comes on the heels of an earlier show of support from Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia.
Binay has outlined key platforms in her campaign, including expanding access to healthcare through free maintenance medicines for the elderly, improving the education system with a focus on early childhood education, and pushing for tax-free overtime pay and bonuses to improve workers’ take-home pay in both the public and private sectors.
