At least 2,500 traffic personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have been deployed in anticipation of heavier traffic as travelers head back to the capital after the Holy Week break.
Charlie Nosares of MMDA Metrobase said the agency had not observed any significant congestion on Metro Manila’s roads as of Sunday morning, despite ongoing works on sections of C‑5 Road in Pasig and Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City.
He said it was good news that they have not monitored any vehicular accidents because the roads are empty, but motorists were advised to be careful while driving.
The MMDA expects traffic volume to rise by late Sunday afternoon as vacationers stream back into the metropolis, projecting the build‑up to begin around 4:30 p.m. and continue steadily until Monday morning.
Cities nationwide slowed down over the long weekend as many Filipinos travelled to their home provinces or holiday destinations to observe Holy Week. Work — and heavier traffic — resume on Monday, 21 April 2025, so the MMDA urges commuters to leave early to avoid delays.
