The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday that all 93 Philippine posts abroad have successfully opened for the midterm elections.
This comes as overseas voting started on Sunday, 13 April, where Filipino voters abroad will participate in a one-month voting period until 12 May.
Filipino overseas voters will elect national positions only — 12 senators and one party-list group.
Of the 93 posts abroad, 77 will use Internet voting, allowing Filipinos to vote using their gadgets such as cellphones, tablets, and laptops.
"Successfully opened na po ang lahat ng 77 [overseas voting and counting system] posts, with Honolulu [Philippine Consulate General] being the last one at around 2:00 AM Philippine Standard Time (8:00 AM in Honolulu)," Comelec Chairperson George Garcia told reporters via Viber.
Thirteen posts abroad, meanwhile, will use automated counting machines (ACMs) because the host countries do not allow Internet voting.
"Earlier today, all 16 ACM posts also successfully conducted open voting procedures," he added.
Garcia previously said they hope to reach at least 50 percent of the 1.321 million voters with the help of Internet voting.
In the 2022 polls, only 40.59 percent of the 1.687 million registered overseas Filipino voters participated, but the figure was recorded as the highest voter turnout in history.
To date, around 54,000 voters overseas have enrolled for Internet voting.
