President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Sunday called on Filipinos to vote for candidates who are honest, caring and capable of serving the nation.
In a brief video message posted on his social media accounts, the President reminded the public to exercise both their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
“Even though our beliefs may differ, that is the spirit of democracy. But differences of opinion should not lead to chaos or intimidation. We are fighting for our future on the ballot. Not in the streets. Not in violence,” the President said in Filipino.
“So let us vote. Choose those who are honest, caring and capable of serving,” he added.
There are close to 69 million registered voters who are expected to participate in the elections.
According to the Commission on Elections, a total of 18,280 seats across 14 different posts —ranging from senators to municipal councilors — are up for grabs.
Marcos urged Filipinos to cast their votes with thoughtfulness, emphasizing the importance of hearing each other’s voices and sharing the dreams that matter to both individuals and the nation as a whole.
He also appealed to political candidates to respect the electoral process and ensure the election remains peaceful.
“Let’s work together for a fair, peaceful, and just election,” he said.
In line with the president’s directive, the Presidential Communications Office is coordinating efforts to provide accurate and timely updates throughout election day.
Secretary Jay Ruiz announced that government-run media will ensure comprehensive coverage of the elections, dubbed “Hatol ng Bayan 2025.”
The broadcast will begin on May 12 at 5 a.m. and continue until May 13 at 2 a.m., with coverage available on PTV, IBC, Radyo Pilipinas-Radyo Publiko, PIA and PNA.
A historic 68.43 million registered Filipino voters are expected to participate in the 2025 midterm elections on Monday, 12 May.
