The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Wednesday the arrest of several employees in its payroll division following the discovery of a scheme to steal funds.
MMDA chairperson Atty. Don Artes personally filed a complaint immediately after the scheme was uncovered.
Reports indicate that the employees manipulated the computerized payroll system to unlawfully take small amounts from the salaries of targeted colleagues and divert the funds to their own accounts.
MMDA general manager Procopio Lipana oversaw the arrest of the allegedly involved personnel, and inquest proceedings have been conducted.
Further investigation revealed a wider conspiracy with the suspected involvement of additional employees, according to the MMDA.
Formal complaints are being prepared, and the agency is building a strong case to file non-bailable charges against those responsible.
The implicated employees have been placed under preventive suspension, and their work computers have been secured.
