The Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division on Sunday reported the arrest of another leader of the communist rebel group, the New People’s Army (NPA), in Lucena City, Quezon province.

The suspect, identified as Darwin Palo, alias Queen, had existing arrest warrants under Criminal Case 16902-G, which includes charges of attempted murder, multiple attempted murders, double homicide, frustrated homicide, and attempted homicide.

Major General Cerilo Balaoro Jr., commander of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, said Palo was arrested by personnel from the Army’s 85th Infantry Battalion and the Lucena City Police Station while serving a warrant.

Balaoro emphasized the military’s role in supporting law enforcement operations.

“The 2nd Infantry Division is committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights, ensuring that all actions are conducted with professionalism and integrity,” he said.

“Through our collaboration with law enforcement agencies, we remain steadfast in our mission to neutralize threats and safeguard communities from criminal and terrorist activities,” he added.

Balaoro further stated that the operation “marks another significant milestone” in the country’s ongoing efforts to weaken the NPA’s influence and operational capacity within communities.

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure that those who threaten peace and security are held accountable.
