Team Kaya This, led by mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya, is now looking for a new venue for their campaign kick-off event on 28 March after the city government barred them from using Plaza Rizal.
Discaya had asked permission from city hall, but she said they were moved to another location.
In a request letter, Discaya asked permission from city hall to use Plaza Rizal as the venue for their campaign kick-off, but they were moved to another location.
“We requested as venue Plaza Rizal, but as can be seen from the special permit given to us, we were given the venue Caruncho Avenue,” she said in a Facebook post.
Discaya averred it was the city government which chose the alternative venue, not Team Kaya This. They decided to cancel the event at Caruncho Avenue because it would cause traffic in the area, especially on a Friday.
“We deemed it right to look for another venue for our supporters. We do not want to cause hassle to Pasigueños because Team Kaya This is here to provide solutions to the many problems of our city,” she added.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, however, denied Discaya’s accusation, insisting it was Discaya’s team which chose the alternative venue.
“It was your choice to transfer to Caruncho Avenue. If you are being hastily told to transfer, why is there an application letter for Caruncho westbound?” the mayor asked.
Sotto showed a copy of the request letter, traffic plan and permit from Discaya’s team for Caruncho Avenue.
“If we are going to tell a tale, let’s tell all. [No to] dishonesty, eh,” the mayor said.
Sotto is seeking his third and final term as local chief executive. He is running against the 48-year-old businesswoman.
