The Philippines’ historical biopic Quezon is set for a grand release as Iain Glen, known for playing Jorah Mormont in HBO's Game of Thrones, joins the cast.
The Scottish actor will portray Leonard Wood, the U.S. Army major who served as governor-general of the Philippines from 1921 to 1927. Wood played a significant role in Manuel Quezon’s pursuit of Philippine independence from the United States.
Directed by Jerrold Tarog, Quezon chronicles the life of Filipino lawyer and soldier Manuel L. Quezon, who served as president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944. Jericho Rosales stars as Quezon, alongside Mon Confiado, Benjamin Alves, Karylle Yuzon, Romnick Sarmenta, J.C. Santos, and Cris Villanueva.
“[Iain Glen] has gravitas. But at the same time, he can let loose, which is important for the role of Leonard Wood,” Tarog said regarding Glen’s casting.
The film has received support from multiple Philippine government agencies, including the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), with the latter providing funding. Additional backing comes from the Department of Tourism and the QCinema Film Foundation.
Quezon is part of TBA Studios' series of Philippine historical films, following the box office hits Heneral Luna and Goyo: The Boy General.
Glen’s recent works include Dr. Pete Nichols in Apple TV+'s dystopian drama Silo and Magnus MacMillan in Prime Video’s supernatural thriller The Rig. He also voices Juste Belmont in Netflix’s animated series Castlevania: Nocturne.
Quezon is set to begin production this month, with its premiere date yet to be announced. The film is expected to hit local cinemas later this year.
